I believe that all children have the capacity to learn.  However, even though all students have the ability, they are not all given the chance to fulfill their potential.  There are many factors that influence the value of the education a student receives.  Many of these are determined by the teacher.  It is my responsibility to establish an environment that best supports student learning.  In other words, I must give every student a strong platform to stand on in order to reach their potential.

In order for a teacher to give a student a strong foundation, I realize that every child is different and must be treated as such.  I understand that each child comes from a different place and brings along with him or her a different past.  This diversity in personalities and backgrounds leads to differences in learning styles.  Good teachers understand and react to this by varying their techniques for each student as I will do.  I believe that individuality is to be celebrated, not overlooked.

I also believe it is important to create an environment which is safe for students.  A classroom is a second home for children, so they need to feel secure.  In some cases, school is the only place of stability for a child, and a teacher has to remember this.

I believe that a good teacher is taking every chance they get to learn about advances in the field.  To this aim, I will collaborate with colleagues, read professionally, and attend professional learning opportunities.  I am a lifelong learner which is a wonderful model for my students,  For the most part, children want to learn.  My job is to keep them engaged in the learning process.  By offering an environment in which students are comfortable and safe, I will provide my students a magnificent place to learn.
