Jaclyn Scott - Web Portfolio
This showcase contains examples of some of the technology related work I've done throughout the masters program at Michigan State University. Some pieces of work were created using a specific technology resource and some are about the use of technology in education. Each item shows the type of work that I pride myself in creating, utilizing, and exhibiting.
Technology Showcase
Energy Management Prezi
This Prezi was created in response to an article titled "Manage Your Energy, Not Your Time" by Tony Schwartz and Catherine McCarthy. The freedom of format allows the creator to truly display understanding. In this case, I was able to show my understanding of the article in 4 key areas. Creating this Prezi to show my own knowledge helped me to better understand how a tool such as this one could be beneficial to me as a teacher and to my students.
Technology & Creativity Glog
Through the use of Glogster I created this Glog to demonstrate my understanding of how technology and creativity intersect. Glogster allowed me to use images, text, links, and video to display my knowledge of the subject. This multimedia approach was especially appropriate given the topic of my Glog.
Retelling Vodcast
This vodcast was created for use in the classroom. I was able to use the exact vocabulary of my classroom to create a video that was able to be visited again and again by my class. Through the use of Creative Commons fair use images and music I created a video that was meaningful for my students. It also showed me that the creation of this type of vodcast is relatively simple and could easily involve the students in some capacity.
Online Mind Map
Towards the end of a course about teaching with technology, we were tasked with creating a mind map to demonstrate the knowledge we gained throughout the course. This mind map is the result of my learning. I was able to use the tool bubbl.us to easily show the connections that I made throughout the course. Creating a mind map helped me to categorize and evaluate my knowledge. This web tool is very valuable in accessing higher order thinking skills.
Repurposed Lesson Plan
This lesson plan required me to find a piece of technology not typically used in education and repurpose it for the classroom. I focused on the iPad app "Scribbie Free". As documented in my paper I utilized the app to help my students show their mathematical understanding on iPads. The lesson was quite successful and inspired me to further use iPads in small groups more often in my kindergarten classroom
Sustainable Technology Project
This project was one that was very relevant to me. I was tasked with creating a plan for the acquisition and use of technology as well as the funding for said technology. This was important to me as funding is consistently a roadblock in creating a technology rich 21st century classroom. My project utilizes a read-a-thon fundraiser to purchase a liscense for ReadingA-Z.com, a website that provides digitial versions of leveled readers.
